3 Things I've Learned From Working With Top Real Estate Agents
I’ve been working with real estate agents for over a decade, and over the years I’ve learned *a ton* from helping single agents, teams, and brokerages with their marketing strategies. I also feel very lucky to have worked with agents who are truly at the top of their game.
In this video, I share 3 marketing-related things I’ve learned from working with top real estate agents:
In case you didn’t watch the video or just want to reference the big takeaways, here are the top 3 things I’ve learned from working with top real estate agents:
1. What works for one real estate business may not work for you.
Marketing is definitely NOT a “one size fits all” situation. In my experience, some agents will want to replicate what another successful agent is doing in their marketing. Then, when it doesn’t work out in the way they hoped it was, they’re pretty disappointed. For example, some agents are really good at positioning themselves as an influencer-type personality on Instagram and finding a ton of business this way. Some agents will see this and want to do the same thing; they may try to venture down the same path for a couple of months, and when it doesn’t work, they wonder why. But finding success for your business through Instagram, for example, is a really long game. While it’s totally possible for many people, it takes a lot of time and consistency.
Maybe you’re actually way better at networking in person, and you should lean into and be intentional about that, or maybe your ideal clients are really responsive to email newsletters. Find the sweet spot of doing marketing that you get excited to create AND marketing that resonates with your audience and ideal client.
2. Find good people to work with, then outsource as much as possible.
If you’re a top agent, you will absolutely need help with your marketing. You need to try and outsource as much as possible while still making sure you are involved and your marketing truly reflects you and your business. You need to work with the RIGHT people, and it may take a few tries to find the right blogger, graphic designer, or video production team. But once you do, trust them to make magic and let go.
3. Ask yourself WHY you are doing a specific type of marketing and WHAT success looks like.
Many of the agents I work with are overachievers, and a lot of times they want to jump on the latest marketing fad. They may try to be everywhere at once because they feel like this is what they should be doing or that’s what all of the “successful” agents are doing. (FYI, I totally understand this urge, and I’m always excited when my clients want to try something new.) But before you start a TikTok account or launch a podcast, ask yourself what you hope the outcome will be. How will you know if your marketing efforts have been successful?
For example, if you start a podcast, commit to doing 10 episodes over the next 2 months. Determine what success will look like to you. Will you consider your podcast venture successful if you get one client out of it? Or will you consider it successful if you get to meet 5 new well-connected people through your podcast?
Bonus!
4. Take time to celebrate the wins.
In my experience, top agents have tons of “wins” all the time, but they quickly move on to the next thing. I think it’s really wonderful when agents can stop every now and then and not only celebrate for themselves, but also make sure to acknowledge the people around them. Make sure that the people working for you know they’re doing a good job. As an independent contractor myself, I know that it can be super motivating to just know that my clients are happy with what we’re doing!
